What happened to Frida Kahlo in 1925?
In 1925, Frida Kahlo was on her way home from school in Mexico City when the bus she was riding collided with a streetcar. She suffered near-fatal injuries and her disability became a major theme in her paintings.
Where and when did she start paining?
She started practicing painting techniques in the hospital after being bedridden for months.
What did she mostly paint?
She painted friends and family, still lives, spiritual scenes and her mesmerizing colorful self-portraits.
What did The Broken Column symbolize?
It reveals her mental and physical state.
What movement in art was she often associated with? What was the main difference between her and the representatives of this movement?
She was often associated with Surrealism, and unlike surrealists, who used dreamlike images to explore the unconscious mind, Kahlo used them to represent her physical body and life experiences.

The cause of their divorce was infidelity on both sides.
What does The Two Fridas (1939) imply?
The two in the painting suggest a position caught between past and present, individuality and dependence. It shows her anguish of loss and a splintered sense of self.
